![]() Having to resync 100 gigs of data over my wireless network was not fun or fast. Something they *knew* (as I found out later on their discussion board) would kill an AppleTV with 2.3 on it but was there as an option anyway. Oh and did I mention that I had to format my AppleTV as a result of the "software menu" installed with the last version? I was trying to deal with the problem of it not working reliably and I installed something I shouldn't have. The last time, it wouldn't load and it wouldn't exit so I had to unplug my AppleTV to get it working again. More often than not, like at least 3/4 of the time, it won't load. I've been very disappointed lately with boxee though. Still need an invite? PM me and I'll send you one. I was wondering if anyone who has signed up to Boxee would be kind enough to send me an invite? BOXEE BOX FORUMS TVPerhaps most importantly though is that Boxee lets me (as a Canadian) easily watch the Comedy Channel and other streaming TV shows without having to resort to clumsy workarounds to get past their US-only viewing policy. Boxee also features Twitter and Last.fm integration, which is nice also. They're all remarkably stable though (Boxee, XBMC, and Plex all use the same codebase maintained and worked on by the XBMC team), and Boxee and XBMC both still work on 10.4, which is a plus. The best I can do, from what I've tried, is to set my iTunes music folder as my media library folder - for some odd reason though it only picks up a few of my non-protected AAC and MP3 albums, and only some of them have their album art picked up. I also would like to see better integration with iTunes - like an option to import my library. BOXEE BOX FORUMS WINDOWSOtherwise it leads to the kind of thing I remember Brad ranting about in Windows apps where a preferences dialog could have tons and tons of tabs with countlessly packed radio buttons and options. We can’t grumble about the picture quality, but the sound is a little lifeless. We can’t fault this box’s abilities when it comes to network friendliness. It looks very slick, easy to use and able to do a TON of different things, that the atv lacks. The Boxee supports a vast array of formats pretty much every video file you can throw at it, and even high-resolution audio up to 24-bit/192kHz. I love my ATV, but i must admit, this little box can slap the atv upside the head. I really wish there was a way to switch from a simplified default set of preferences and settings to a more advanced mode. Engadget has just posted a brief video demonstration of the new boxee box and software. There's also no active help system or tooltip system to explain what some of the more arcane functions do. To change settings I have to drill deep down through several levels of menus, and if I need to move back up in the menu hierarchy I sometimes I have to press ESC and navigate back from the start (I assume that's a bug, though). In general, my problem is that I find the UI way, way too clunky. BOXEE BOX FORUMS CODEI've been trying out both XBMC, Boxee, and Plex, a fork of the Mac XBMC code which happened due to a tiff between the original team porting XBMC to the Mac and the rest of the XBMC developers. ![]()
